Philosophy Department at Academic Fair

The Philosophy Department hosted a "Philosophy stand" at the Academic Fair for first-year students on Stemmons Plaza on Monday, September 7. Present were Profs. Mahon, Bell, Goldberg, Verhage, Smith, and Lowney. Profs. Bell and Verhage also participated in the "Women and Gender Studies stand", and Prof. Bell participated in the "Pre-Law Advising stand".

First-year student interest in Philosophy was extremely high. Students were given information about courses in Philosophy for the fall (see here) and about the Philosophy major and minor. Students were also given information about how Philosophy majors outperfom most other majors on the LSAT (second-highest average scores, after Math), the GRE Verbal, the GRE Quantitative, the GRE Analytic Writing, and the GMAT examinations, and have the third highest rate of acceptance to medical school.

For complete information about philosophy majors' performance on the LSAT, GRE, and GMAT, and medical school applications, see here.
