Bryan Snyder is in his ninth season as the head coach of the Washington and Lee volleyball program. He also serves as the University's Assistant Athletic Director for Finance.
A 1995 W&L graduate, Snyder has tasted nothing but success in his time with the Generals, leading them to a 235-54 (.813) overall record and a 79-3 (.963) Old Dominion Athletic Conference mark during his first eight seasons.
Additionally, he has guided the Generals to seven-straight ODAC Championships and seven consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, while helping W&L set a new school record for victories three times. This culminated with the 2003 squad posting a 35-4 overall record. That followed a 32-8 campaign in 2002 and a 30-5 season in 2001. Snyder's 2006 team finished the season with a 29-8 record and advanced to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament after knocking off top-seeded NYU in the New York Regional. His 2007 team completed the year at 29-6 overall.
The ODAC Coach of the Year six of the past seven seasons and the Virginia College Division Coach of the Year five of the last seven years, Snyder's initial season in 2000 saw the Generals go 20-10 overall, falling in the ODAC Championship game.
The next four seasons, in addition to record win totals, saw the Generals appear in the AVCA Division III poll for the first time in school history. Five players, Lauren Edmonson, Christine Gladysz, Susan Gaillard, Rachel Phillips and Emily Wolfing, have been named to the AVCA Division III All-America teams, a first for Washington and Lee volleyball.
In addition to his volleyball experience, Snyder spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the W&L women's basketball team and was the interim head coach during the 2002-03 season.
Snyder came back to W&L from St. Mary's (Md.) where he served as head volleyball coach and sports information director for two seasons.
While at St. Mary's, Snyder directed the Seahawks to a 41-25 overall record and two third-place finishes in the CAC. Twice his team earned American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Awards, while his 1998 squad finished with a 20-11 overall record, had a school-record eight-match winning streak, and a No. 7 ranking in the mid-atlantic region. His 1999 squad finished with a 21-14 overall record.
In his duties as sports information director, Snyder was responsible for all aspects of promoting St. Mary's 13-sport athletic program.
Following his graduation from W&L in 1995, Snyder served as the assistant sports information director at his alma mater until departing for St. Mary's in January of 1998.
As an undergraduate, Snyder assisted the sports information office while also serving as a student assistant coach for the volleyball team his senior year.
Snyder is married to former W&L Head Athletic Trainer Holly Snyder. The two reside in Buena Vista, Va., with their son, Devin.
