Gavin Colliton is in his 10th season as the head golf coach at Washington and Lee. During his tenure, Colliton has led the Generals to one ODAC title and six runner-up finishes in the conference tournament.
Colliton's 2008 team won the conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where W&L finished in 16th place out of 35 teams. For his efforts, Colliton was named the ODAC Coach of the Year.
In addition to team success, Colliton has mentored several individuals to conference and national honors. His athletes have garnered 18 All-ODAC citations, three ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, two ODAC Rookie of the Year awards and two ODAC Player of the Year awards. Nathaniel James garnered All-America honors three times, Scholar All-America honors twice and was named the first-ever Division III recipient of the Byron Nelson Award in 2008.
Colliton has been a member of the University for nearly 20 years, serving as the offensive line coach for the football team and previously as assistant coach of the men's tennis team.
A 1984 graduate of Salisbury University, Colliton was a two-year starter for the football team, helping the Seagulls to the NCAA Division III semifinals as a senior. Colliton then joined Salisbury's coaching staff and helped the Seagulls to a NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1985 and a championship game appearance in 1986. Colliton, who earned his master's at Salisbury, then coached at Central Connecticut and Princeton before coming to W&L.
Colliton helped Princeton earn a share of the 1989 Ivy League title. Gavin and wife Patti reside in Lexington with their sons, John and Joe.
