Brian LaubscherSports Information Directorblaubsch@wlu.edu540-458-8676 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. • June 29, 2009The Virginia Sports Information Director's Association (VaSID) announced its 2009 All-State baseball team recently and Washington and Lee senior centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was honored for the second-straight year.
In being named a first team selection, McKelvey becomes just the third General to be named to the VaSID All-State team in back-to-back seasons.
McKelvey was named the 2009 ODAC Player of the Year, the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was a First Team All-ODAC selection, as well as a Second Team All-Region honoree. He hit .421 on the season with 12 doubles, five triples and a pair of homeruns. He led the Generals with 34 runs scored and added 25 runs batted in.
He concludes his career as W&L's all-time leader in batting average (.400), triples (16) and ranks in the Top 5 in numerous season and career categories at Washington and Lee. He also ranks in the ODAC's Top 10 in five different career categories, including first all-time in fielding percentage (.993) and second all-time in on-base percentage (.486).
W&L finished the season at 22-15, won its first-ever ODAC Championship and made the team's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
