Parent Information

The Washington and Lee Financial Aid Office has made some important changes in the student award notification process for the 2009-10 academic year. Parents of W&L students should be aware of these changes and how they may affect your access to the student's financial aid information. The changes are outlined below:

Financial Aid Award Letter
The student financial assistance letter will now be available on-line through the W&L Financial Aid web site. Students may access their award letter using their current W&L UserID and password. During the week of June 22 the Financial Aid Office will send an email to the student's W&L email address with all necessary details, assuming that the student has completed all the documentation required for the award. The student may accept or decline individual awards and submit these decisions on-line without the need to mail a printed copy back to the FA office. The award letter can be printed and shared with the parents, but it is not accessible by the parents without using the student ID and password. A printed version of the Financial Aid assistance letter will no longer be mailed to the student home address. Should you require a printed award letter you may submit an email request to the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@wlu.edu. We will be happy to provide a copy.

Student Loan Status
In addition to the on-line financial assistance letter, students will now be able to view both the student and parent loan status on-line. The on-line loan status page will provide students with current information regarding missing documentation, processing status, and fund disbursement for their loans. A student will access this area using the same login procedure as above.

Direct Loans
You should have received notification from the Financial Aid Office that Washington and Lee University is now processing all Stafford and PLUS (parent) loans directly through the Federal Direct Loan system. This means that all students and parents that wish to apply for a federal educational loan must complete a new master promissory note this year. Detailed instructions can be found at Loan Infomation
