25 Romance Languages Majors Join in Graduation Celebration

 

Graduating Majors and their families began to converge on the front lawn of Tucker Hall at 8 AM for a breakfast hosted by the Department. Some of the excitement of the morning can be seen in these photos from the event.

The Colonnade was overflowing with excitement, as graduates, their families and friends, and faculty mingled over breakfast.

Post-graduation plans that our majors have shared with us include the following:

Richard Cleary (French) will be pursuing a M.Phil. in International Relations at the University of Cambridge.

Lauren Wood (Spanish) will b attending LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.

Stephanie Stelter (Spanish) will be teaching sixth grade English at the Southwest Campus of YES Prep Public Schools in Houston.

Bobby Ray Martin (Romance Languages-Spanish) will be attending W&L Law School.

Vance Berry (Spansih) will be spending next year in Brisbane, Australia, with his fiancée Elizabeth Webb, who will be studying melanoma on a Fulbright Grant. They will be married in Lee Chapel this summer.

Paul Stack (French) was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship and will be teaching at various schools in the Nancy-Metz region of France.

Kelly Bundy (French) was awarded a Teaching Assistantship by the French government (also via the Fulbright Fellowship program), and is awaiting placement in France.

Kara McElroy (Spansih) will be moving to New York City to look for a job in publishing and hopes to apply her Spanish major in her work.

Hansen Babington (Spanish) will study journalism at La Universidad Complutense in Madrid as the beneficiary of the International Rotary Foundation's Ambassadorial Scholarship Fund. He will also travel throughout Spain speaking to groups as a Rotary Ambassador.

Catherine Gerhardt (Spanish) will spend the summer in Jackson Hole, WY, job undetermined. After that she plans to seek employment in the Richmond or DC area. She will take the LSAT in September and is considering applying to law school after a year of work.

Elizabeth Garson (Spanish) is moving to Atlanta to work at a boutique investment bank called VRA partners.

Crystal Benavides (Spanish) will be pursuing an MA in accounting at the University of Nebraska.

Kavita DeVaney (French) will be spending next year in Paris, working on an MA in French through Middlebury University.
