• The Goodheart Prize for Fiction
  This $1,000 prize is awarded annually to the best story published in a volume year of Shenandoah. All stories published in the magazine are automatically considered for the prize.
• The James Boatwright III Prize for Poetry
  This $1,000 prize is awarded annually to the best poem/s published in a volume year of Shenandoah. All poems published in the magazine are automatically considered for the prize.
• The Carter Prize for the Essay
  This $1,000 prize is awarded annually to the best essay published in a volume year of Shenandoah. All essays published in the magazine are automatically considered for the prize.
• The Shenandoah/Glasgow Prize for Emerging Writers
  This $2,000 prize is awarded annually by Shenandoah and Washington and Lee University.
• The Graybeal-Gowan Prize for Virginia Writers
  A $500 prize awarded annually for a single poem by a writer born in or with current established residence in Virginia.
