Patrick Hinely's "Last Lecture"

Patrick Hinely, Washington and Lee's University Photographer, presented his "last lecture" as part of a new lecture series developed by W&L senior Eduardo Rodriguez on May 14, 2009.

A 1973 graduate of Washington and Lee, Hinely is now in his30th year as University Photographer. In addition to his images of the University campus, Hinely is known for his photography of musicians and others involved in the creation and performance of jazz. Hinely has taught photography at W&L, and the lecturer series' organizer, Rodriquez, was among his students.

The "Last Lecture Series," which Rodriguez organized, is patterned after similar program at other institutions where faculty members are invited to present on the topic of their choosing “as if it were their last to address an audience.” Such series received internationall attention two years ago when the late Randy Pausch gave his last lecture at Carnegie-Mellon University after having been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.
