For a small department within a liberal arts college, the Department of Geology at Washington and Lee has extensive geochemical, geophysical and geologic equipment. Laboratory equipment includes an ICPS, Ion Chromatograph, XRD, SEM and other standard geochemical laboratory equipment. All of these machines were purchased new within the last few years.
In addition, we have a full rock/thin section preparation lab, and we recently upgraded our microscope lab with several brand new optical microscopes and supporting equipment. We have a field seismic acquisition unit, imaging resistivitiy unit, gravimeter, and magnetometer.
Additionally, we have a vibracore, total station units, laser rangefinder, a number of gps units and several meters for water sampling. To facilitate field work we have two twelve passenger vans.
