The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s tennis teams both captured ODAC Player of the Week laurels as first-years Michael Freeman (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and Trelsie Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) were honored.
Freeman helped lead the Generals to a 3-0 week by winning all three of his singles matches. Freeman won the deciding match at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-4) in a 5-4 win over 23rd-ranked Salisbury on Saturday. He then posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles in an 8-1 win over Bridgewater later on Saturday, before notching a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles in a 5-4 win over 24th-ranked Christopher Newport on Sunday. For the season, Freeman is 8-7 overall in singles play.
Sadler posted a pair of singles wins, as well as a pair of doubles wins as No. 2 Washington and Lee defeated both Bridgewater and Guilford over the weekend. Sadler took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles and paired with first-year Ann Morris (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) to win, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles as W&L defeated Bridgewater, 9-0 on Saturday. Sadler then captured a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with first-year Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wisc./Lincoln) for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles as the Generals defeated Guilford, 9-0 on Sunday.
Both the men’s and women’s teams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan. The women will play at 12:30 pm with the men to play immediately thereafter.
