Marc C.Conner, professor of English and director of the African-American Studies Program at Washington and Lee University, remembers author John Updike in a "Civic Soapbox" tribute on National Public Radio's WMRA on Feb. 13, 2009.
In his essay, Conner, who teaches American literature at W&L, said that Updike wrote so much and in so many different styles that it is impossible to categorize him as a specific type of writer.
