W&L Swimming Teams Named in Recent Division III Polls

Men's Team Climbs to 13th, Women Receiving Votes

The Washington and Lee men’s swimming team was picked 13th out of 25 teams in the most recent Division III men's Dual Meet Poll released by CollegeSwimming.com, while the women's team garnered seven points in the women's poll.

The men's team, which moved up from 19th in the previous poll, collected 255 total points. Top-ranked Kenyon was a near-unanimous choice at the top, garnering 23-of-24 first-place votes for a total of 622 points. Denison (592) edged Emory (584) for second-place, while Washington (Mo.) came in fourth with 524 points and one first-place vote. Johns Hopkins (479) rounded out the Top 5. St. Olaf (423), Grove City (386), The College of New Jersey (382), Hope (317), Williams (317), MIT (294), UW-Stevens Point (285), W&L (255), Carnegie Mellon (253), DePauw (221), Kalamazoo (203), UC Santa Cruz (187), New York (186), Amherst (173), Carthage (163), Gustavus Adolphus (148), Luther College (125 and one first-place vote), Chicago (88), Puget Sound (87) and Alfred (82) round out the poll.

The W&L men are currently 7-0 and have posted victories over No. 14 Carnegie Mellon (156.5-105.5) and No. 15 DePauw (155-139).

Kenyon also sits atop the women's poll with 472 points and 17 first-place votes. Emory (451), Denison (433), Amherst (371 and one first place vote) and Williams (355) round out the Top 5. Johns Hopkins (330), Washington (Mo.) (314), Hope (287), Wheaton (209), Carnegie Mellon (204), UC Santa Cruz (193), Middlebury (190), UW-Stevens Point (173), Carthage (166), The College of New Jersey (154), Luther (148 and one first-place vote), SUNY Geneseo (146), DePauw (144), Centre (128), New York (125), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (115), UW-LaCrosse (106) Mary Washington (93), Stevens Tech (92) and Calvin (74) complete the poll.

The women's team is currently 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the ODAC.

Both W&L swim teams return to the pool on Saturday when they take on Wingate, Catawba and Ashland at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center near Charlotte, N.C. The meet is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
