Senior forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) was selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District III Women's Soccer First Team, which was announced on Thursday.
A computer science major with a concentration in women's studies, Van Devender has started 14 games for W&L and leads the Generals in scoring, totaling 39 points on 14 goals and 11 assists this season. A second team academic all-district selection in 2006 and a first team honoree in 2007, Van Devender currently ranks second all-time at W&L in career goals (61), career assists (33) and career points (155).
With her first-team selection, Van Devender will now go on to the national ballot where she could earn Academic All-America honors.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
