The Bonner Program aims to provide a unique college experience for a select number of students by empowering them to further the culture of service on campus and in the local community through the productive use of service, education and leadership.
To achieve this vision, W&L University, in conjunction with the Bonner Foundation and the Corporation for National Service (AmeriCorps), provide service-based scholarships. Students selected to be Bonner Leaders commit to 900-hours of service over two years.
The Bonner Leaders Program heightens the overall education of students, engaging students in ongoing service and developing student leadership skills and knowledge necessary for meaningful contributions to the community.
The Bonner Program functions as a replacement for traditional university work-study, allowing students otherwise committed to the fulfillment of financial obligations through work, the time and funding to pursue their interests in community service. Students are eligible to apply the January of their first and sophomore year.
