  • Brazilian Club

    To help students and faculty learn Portuguese through various campus activities and to engage the W&L community in multicultural events regarding Brazilian culture.
  • ESOL
    (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
    The mission of The English for Speakers of Other Languages Program is to facilitate communication between the English and non-English speaking populations in Rockbridge County. Although ESOL has focused on the Hispanic community, the program works with speakers of all languages. We offer formal ESOL classes and one-on-one tutoring arrangements, as well as free translation of documents from Spanish into English and a hotline to provide immediate interpreting and translation services.
  • GLBT Equality Initiative

    Each member of the W&L community benefits from any and all measures to increase appreciation and acceptance of the differences within it. G.E.I will serve as an organization for students, administrators, and faculty committed to increasing tolerance and acceptance of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered members of the W&L community.

  • German Club

  • Ladies Club

    The Ladies' Club is a group of multicultural women who get together at least twice a month to participate in a wide variety of activities that emphasize “social learning”. From group discussions to study breaks, bowling night to spa night, and cooking for a party to line dancing, the Ladies' Club is a chance for the women of the multicultural community to come together and, quite simply, have a good time!
  • Minority Outreach Recruitment Entourage
    Adviser: Erin Hutchinson
    The missions of this organization are to, in coordination with the Admissions Office, recruit minority students to Washington and Lee University as well as integrate qualified minority students into the W&L community.
  • MSA
    Multicultural Student Association
    Seeks to secure a just and harmonious manner to resolve our disputes and promote ethnic cultural awareness among ethnic students as well as others through cooperation with students and faculty. We strive to support the recruitment and retention of academically qualified minority candidates, provide a social support group for minority students in fostering their success and happiness.

  • Student Association for International Learning
    SAIL - Bringing the World to Our Campus

    SAIL is an organization addressing international issues and sharing with the Washington and Lee University campus new and different answers to social, cultural and political questions. Most importantly, SAIL promotes exchange between the diverse cultures represented at Washington and Lee. Simply put, "bringing the world to our campus" describes what SAIL does.
  • Salam

    Salam, meaning ‘peace’ in Arabic, provides a venue for Muslim students and students interested in Islam to share common experiences and backgrounds. The club also seeks to develop opportunities for outreach to the W&L and local community on Islam and current affairs involving Muslim countries.
  • Spanish House (Casa Hispanica)
    The purpose of the Spanish House is to engage students in extra-curricular activities which stress the development of linguistic and cultural competence in Spanish, and to create a sense of community amongst those interested in the Spanish language and culture.

    We the Black/African American/Caribbean American students of Washington and Lee University seek to uphold the University's commitment to diversity. Through the dedication of all members of the University community, we plan to create an environment that promotes civic awareness, tolerance, the exchange of ideas and community service.
