Supporting Students
A Washington and Lee education is rich with learning opportunities.
Beyond the classroom, students learn a great deal through research projects, and off-campus experiences such as study abroad programs and internships. These experiences are an important way that students broaden and deepen their liberal arts education. Unfortunately, not all students can afford these programs, or, in the case of summer internships, can take time off from paid employment in order to participate in them. Donors can help Washington and Lee guarantee that all students are able to take full advantage of the educational options available during their time at college.
Supporting Research Opportunities for StudentsThese scholarships provide summer support for students engaged in faculty-mentored learning through reasearch projects. Donors who support R.E. Lee Scholars are underwriting life-changing learning experiences for W&L students, and fostering the student-faculty relationships which are so important at W&L.
Supporting Student Internship ExperiencesMany of the best internship programs available to W&L students offer little or no compensation and do not provide living expenses. Yet these experiences are priceless, and are part of the way W&L students choose to broaden and deepen their education. Named internship endowments are a way that donors can help W&L students take advantage of these learning opportunities.
Supporting Students to Study AbroadStudy abroad programs offer incomparable learning opportunities for W&L students, but often are very expensive. Study Abroad Funds help underwrite these costs.
