Plan on spending some time at the campus fitness center? You aren’t alone. 25% of students at W&L play varsity sports and 75% play club or intramural sports. So whether you are giving hits on the football field, taking a swim in the pool or simply tossing a Frisbee, there is something for athletes of all levels at W&L. Prospective varsity athletes should complete the prospect form for the team they are interested in joining.

We are an NCAA Division III school, which means we do not offer scholarships in exchange for playing time, but we can offer you the opportunity of a lifetime – a high quality college sports career and a winning education. The Generals are founding members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and we have won the Commissioner’s Cup for overall athletic excellence 12 of the last 14 years. During the 2007-2008 school year, our teams posted a 70% overall winning rate, claimed eight Conference Championships, and 219 students were named W&L Scholar-Athletes (GPA of 3.5 or higher). Clearly, student-athletes enjoy success inside and outside the classroom at W&L.

Don’t want to commit as much time as a varsity sport requires? Check out one of our popular sport clubs or join an intramural team. Everyone is out to have a good time, so don’t worry if you haven’t picked up a racquet since Justin Timberlake was a part of N’Sync. For example, some of the most active options are with our Outing Club, which offers everything from SCUBA certification to skiing to camping in Jamaica. There are plenty of studios and gym space available for use by all students throughout the Warner Center, which is also the location of our state-of-the-art fitness center.
