The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) recently announced the 2008 Division III Academic squads and Washington and Lee was honored. Additionally, former Generals Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), Allison Gockley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), Kat Michaels (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep), along with rising senior Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) were named to the Academic Honor Roll.

Washington and Lee was among 56 Division III teams recognized. For a team to be named to the Academic squad, it must maintain a team grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.00. For an individual to be named to the Academic Honor Roll, one must have at least a 3.2 GPA.

Bender, a four-year letterwinner, played in 68 career games and notched 79 career goals, while Gockley played in 63 career games and was a member of a W&L defense that was nationally ranked for the fourth-straight season.

The 2008 Defender of the Year, ODAC and Virginia College Division Player of the Year, Michaels earned First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-Chesapeake Region and First Team All-America honors this past spring. Slosson was a Second-Team All-ODAC selection for the second-consecutive year, while Robinson was named a Third-Team All-American and is a two-time first-team all-conference selection and a first-team all-region pick.

The Generals ended the 2008 campaign with a 17-3 overall record and an unblemished 9-0 ODAC mark as they claimed their sixth-straight conference championship. W&L also made its sixth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Generals received a first-round bye and fell to Amherst, 10-8, in the second round.
