Caribbean Society

Mission Statement

Our focus is to bring together proactive members of the Caribbean/Caribbean-American community, as well as those who sympathize and understand our cause, into an effective group. The Caribbean Society will expose the important elements of the region to the campus and community at large. The group will focus on the culture, food, politics, visual and performing arts endemic to the Caribbean. The Caribbean Society is committed to:

  • Bringing together the Caribbean and Caribbean-American students in a structured association by creating a personal and pointed experience of being West Indian.
  • Finding and working with Caribbean members of the Lexington community and surroundings areas of Virginia.
  • Presenting the issues of the Caribbean to the students of Washington and Lee University and citizens of Lexington.
  • Getting involved in service directly related to the Caribbean to allow the uplifting of Caribbean nationals in their respective countries.
  • Hosting social events to involve the entire campus in Caribbean entertainment such as potlucks, parties.
  • Using the “Taste of the Caribbean” radio show to publicize the efforts of the organization.
  • Expanding the W&L experience and providing another dimension to a respected institution looking to acknowledge diversity.
