About the League

The mission of the Generals Gentlemen’s League is to cultivate and encourage the holistic development of the men of color at Washington and Lee University through personal, academic, social, spiritual, intellectual and professional training workshops and activities. These intentional and purposeful programs will equip the men with the vital tools that they will need to be socially responsible citizens and to enhance their personal and leadership potential.

The Gentlemen’s League seeks to:

• Assist the men of color in maximizing their full potential in all aspects of their personal and professional lives through empowerment, leadership and personal development. 
• Provide workshops and discussion forums addressing issues that are pertinent to men of color. 
• Encourage self awareness and foster the development of self esteem and self-confidence. 
• Assist in the recruitment and retention of men of color at Washington and Lee University. 
• Train men to serve as role models to others. 
• Provide intellectual growth and critical thinking. 
• Assist in career exploration and attainment. 
• Cultivate social and civic responsibility through community outreach and activism. 
• Assist in academic and personal goal setting and achievement. 
• Encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle.
