The 2007 Washington and Lee men's and women's cross country teams were picked by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the Division III Preseason Regional rankings. The women's team was selected third in the South/Southeast Regional rankings, while the men's team was picked fifth.

For the women, Emory topped the poll, followed by Trinity (Texas) and W&L. Fellow ODAC members Roanoke (7th) and Lynchburg (10th) also appeared in the rankings. For the men, Emory also ranked first, followed by Rhodes, Centre, Mary Washington and W&L. Bridgewater (8th) and Lynchburg (10th) also represent the ODAC in the rankings.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2007 preseason coaches poll in August and the Washington and Lee men's and women's teams were also both chosen as the favorites to win the ODAC title.

The Generals opened their season with the W&L Invitational last Saturday. The men placed first out of 13 teams with junior Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma), leading the way by finishing first out of 124 runners with a time of 28:39. The women finished second out of 13 teams led by sophomore Kat Telfeyan (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead), who finished sixth out of 108 runners in a time of 25:29.

The W&L men's and women's cross country teams will continue their seasons as the men travel to the NYU Invitational and the women compete at the JMU Invitational this weekend.
