The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame has announced that Washington and Lee is the recipient of its 2007 Achievement Award.
The Achievement Award is presented annually to the Division I and College Division institutions that achieve the highest overall winning percentage in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
During the 2006-07 season, the Generals posted a 220-89-5 (.709) overall record, won eight conference championships and sent six teams and 15 individuals to the NCAA National Tournaments. Additionally, W&L claimed the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship in women's tennis.
Virginia Sports Hall of Fame President Eddie Webb will present the award to 2006-07 Interim Director of Athletics and current athletic department advisor Chuck O'Connell and W&L Assistant Athletic Director Bryan Snyder at halftime of the Generals' men's basketball game with Roanoke on Sun., Jan. 13. The game is slated to tip off at 4:00 pm.
Located in Portsmouth, Va., the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 to honor Virginia's contributions to the world of sports as the Commonwealth's official sports hall of fame.
