Campus Kitchens Project

Lexington, VA

The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) is an emerging leader in community service for students and resourceful anti-hunger programs for communities around the country.

The entire program is student-run. Tasks undertaken by students include:

  • planning menus
  • obtaining food
  • running cooking shifts
  • organizing drivers
  • teaching culinary skills to unemployed adults
In addition, they keep track of all paperwork necessary to ensure that everything−including food preparation−is being done safely, organize fundraisers, develop curriculum, and recruit new students to get involved. Students then take those skills with them into the workforce when they graduate.

The Campus Kitchens Project is about more than meals. At the core of CKP is the belief that its meals and volunteer energy will be more powerful when combined with empowering education like culinary job training, nutrition education, and healthy cooking classes for families.
