ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Photography program at W&L exists within the Department of Art in the beautiful, new Wilson Hall building. The program is a complimentary blend of traditional and current techniques, integrating both digital and darkroom processes. Students can major or minor in Studio Art, with a concentration in photography. For more information, contact Prof. Christa Bowden at x8880 or bowdenc@wlu.edu.

OUR FACILITIES & EQUIPMENT
- 2 large black & white darkrooms with 16 total 4x5 enlarger stations. Each student in photography keeps a dedicated enlarger station throughout the term.
- A complete digital darkroom, with 8 Macintosh stations, including Wacom drawing tablets, and Epson 10000XL and V700 scanners for film & prints.
- 3 archival ink-jet printers: Epson 9800 (up to 44" wide), Epson 3800 (up to 17" wide), and Epson R2400 (up to 13" wide), plus a dye-based Epson 1400 for proofs & contact sheets.
- Current imaging software, including Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Lightroom 2.0.
- Beautiful, light-filled classroom/studio, with access to the terrace and overlooking Woods Creek, for outdoor learning & work.
- Digital projection system for viewing presentations, demos, and films.
- 8-4x5 Toyo field view cameras, 3 medium format cameras, and a number of digital SLR cameras and 35 mm film cameras available to students for check-out. We also have tripods, studio lights, and backdrops available for student use.
- Funding is available to students for whom the cost of taking photography courses presents a financial challenge.
HONORS & AWARDS
- The Sally Mann Prize for Photography, given annually to an exceptional photography student. 2008 recipient: Emily
- Grimball '08; 2009 recipient: Michael O'Brien '10.
- 2 scholarships awarded annually to attend the Society for Photographic Education National Conference. The next
- conference will be in March 2010 in Philadelphia, PA.
