Students will spend four weeks in Kanazawa studying the Japanese language in the morning and participating in cultural activities, such as flower arrangement, Zen practice, calligraphy and tea ceremony in the afternoon. Other activities will include field trips such as an overnight trip to Noto peninsula. Students live with a host family and can experience typical Japanese daily life. Three levels of language instruction (beginning, 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year) will be offered. Beginners without any prior language training are welcome and should speak with the program leader, Prof. Ikeda, in advance.

Program Fee (paid to W&L): $1,400. This fee includes tuition, homestay, placement test, textbook overnight group trip, weekly cultural activities and supplemental health insurance.

Estimated Other Expenses: Airfare - $1600-1900 (depending on your departure location); $250 for round trip Bullet Train from Tokyo to Kanazawa (if you fly into Narita Airport); daily lunches - $270 (about $10 a day); daily commute cost in Kanazawa - $100; suggested pocket money - $400.
