The courses in public speaking are open to all students, no major or minor are offered, nor do the courses fulfill any distribution requirements.

The courses are divided into two kinds:

1. Performances courses wherein students deliver their own speeches
2. Speech text-based courses in which students study great American speeches from Puritan preachers to contemporary persuaders.

Special attention in all of the courses is given to how speakers style, organize, argue, and deliver their addresses.
