Upcoming Events

There are no scheduled events at this time.

The Department of Philosophy at Washington & Lee University seeks to introduce students to deep and persistent questions of existence, knowledge, and value, to encourage students to examine critically a variety of beliefs, attitudes, and social structures, and to foster creative thoughtfulness and self-reflection.

Philosophy is a fundamental subject matter, and its study equips any student for work in a wide variety of fields. There are currently approximately 50 philosophy majors and minors at W&L. In addition to going to graduate school in philosophy, our majors (and now minors) have gone on to pursue careers in law, education, information technology, banking, advertising, medicine, health sciences, journalism, and the armed forces. For more about our recent graduates, see here.
