A.E. Mathis Wrestling Room

About the Facility

Headquarters for the Washington and Lee wrestling program is the A.E. Mathis Wrestling Room, located in the Warner Center.

The Mathis Wrestling Room measures 60 feet by 30 feet and is where the Generals hold their daily practices. The room is named after W&L wrestling coach Archie Mathis. Mathis coached at W&L from 1925-1942, leading the Generals to nine undefeated seasons.

The A.E. Mathis Wrestling Room was renovated prior to the 2008-09 season and the project included a new ventilation system, a new ceiling and lighting, new wall pads complete with graphics and lettering, new practice mats and restoration of the conference champion pictures and plaques, which are included in a W&L Wrestling Wall of Fame.
