Full-time undergraduate faculty members are invited to submit proposals to establish or broaden the faculty member’s preparation to teach a particular course or set of courses; to enable the purchase of resources to enhance courses; and/or add a new dimension to students’ experience in the course. Proposals could lay out significant revisions to current courses or the development of a new course. Proposals will be judged by the Advisory Committee mainly on the extent to which innovative pedagogy and fresh approaches will result in enhanced learning outcomes. Applicants should feel free to email the Provost in advance of preparing an application to ask about the suitability of a particular idea for these awards.
Proposals must be submitted to the Provost’s Office by March 28, 2008 either electronically or in hard copy. Up to four awards will be made in the range of $1500-$6000, available for expenditure in the 2008-2009 fiscal year. Awards are for expenses; stipends are not appropriate. A proposal write-up of 3-5 pages should include: 1) detailed description of the project in relation to specific teaching/learning enhancements; 2) an itemized budget which may include (for example) special materials, student or faculty travel, minor equipment, software, or participation in a workshop; 3) a plan for assessing the results. Awardees will be required to submit a final report at the conclusion of the project.
