Caribbean Society

Our focus is to bring together proactive members of the Caribbean/Caribbean-American community, as well as those who sympathize and understand our cause, into an effective group. The Caribbean Society will expose the important elements of the region to the campus and community at large. The group will focus on the culture, food, politics, visual and performing arts endemic to the Caribbean.

Film Society

The Film Society, comprised of interested faculty and students, presents a motion picture series of critically acclaimed foreign and American works. The series is designed to present to the campus and the community, free of charge, noteworthy and provocative film achievements.

General's Gentlemen's League

Welcome to the official homepage of the General’s Gentlemen’s League. The objectives of GGL are leadership development of, the promotion of personal growth, and providing a positive collegiate experience for multicultural men at Washington and Lee. This year, we hope to achieve these goals through a diverse array of educational and social events. We hope to train our members to be effective leaders as well as equip them with the tools they will need to have a meaningful and enjoyable experience at W&L. International Relations Association

The International Relations Association (IRA) seeks to increase awareness and understanding of international political issues on campus by organizing debates, forums, speakers and discussions on various topics. Discussions are open to everyone and aim at developing speaking abilities and global awareness in its participants. Model United Nations (MUN) is also run under IRA. In Model U.N., students step into the shoes of ambassadors from U.N. member states to debate current issues on the organization’s vast agenda. Knowledge Empowering Women Leaders (KEWL)

A student-run leadership program combining course work in Women's Studies with gender-related programming outside the classroom. KEWL encourages critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, fosters understanding of women's roles and contributions, promotes self-esteem and self-confidence, and increases awareness of obstacles women have faced and are facing in order to discuss strategies to address these issues.

Ladies' Club

The Ladies' Club is a group of multicultural women who get together at least twice a month to participate in a wide variety of activities that emphasize “social learning”. From group discussions to study breaks, bowling night to spa night, and cooking for a party to line dancing, the Ladies' Club is a chance for the women of the multicultural community to come together and, quite simply, have a good time!

Liberty Hall Volunteers

The Liberty Hall Volunteers participate in Civil War reenactments and living history events for the W&L community, portraying the unit formed of students from Washington College in 1862.Advisor: J. Holt Merchant

Mock Trial

Mock trials will focus on the American legal system by simulating real life criminal cases and working through them. Students will get the opportunity to be lawyers in a court setting and learn further about the legal system. Students considering law as a career will have an opportunity to see if the career is suited to them.

Seeks to secure a just and harmonious manner to resolve our disputes and promote ethnic cultural awareness among ethnic students as well as others through cooperation with students and faculty. Onyx

The mission of Onyx is to promote community interaction among Black students at Washington and Lee University. In order to achieve this mission, Onyx will provide a forum for the exchange of economic, political, social and cultural views of Black students; expose issues pertaining to Black students along with nurturing intracampus and intercampus relationships with other organizations; and perform community service within Rockbridge County.

Outing Club

The Outing Club offers students, faculty, and staff a variety of outdoor activities and classes. Students lead most of the activities, which include backpacking, fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, caving, skiing, and outdoor cooking. Trips vary in length from day hikes to ten-day trips held during February and Spring breaks. Equipment and trip planning resources are available to all Outing Club members.

Pan Asian Association for Cultural Exchange (PAACE)

Hosting events within the W&L community and community at large, PAACE plans and coordinates activities creating awareness and appreciation for Asian culture. PAACE aims to introduce events and activities that will cultivate understanding and knowledge of the various Asian heritages and Asian-American backgrounds represented at W&L. The organization also seeks to provide an environment facilitating interaction within the Asian and Asian-American community. Working with other organizations and groups that promote diversity education and cultural awareness, PAACE endeavors to help make W&L a more integrated and globally aware campus.

Williams Investment Society

The Williams Investment Society is a student organization that manages a portion of W&L’s endowment in equity securities. The Society’s purpose is to provide students with a forum to develop their interest in investments and financial analysis by giving them the opportunity to actively manage real capital. The Society also seeks to broaden awareness of investments within the W&L community through sponsoring speakers and making the Society’s presentations and operations open to the public.

Women in Technology and Science

Women in Technology and Science (WITS) is comprised of University women in all majors. We work with a group of 36-40 female students from Maury River Middle School (6th-8th grades). We conduct hands-on activities and labs in science and technology-related fields with the hope of preventing the loss of interest in these subjects that often occurs among middle school girls. In addition, we often serve as judges for school- and county-level middle school science fairs.
