Virginia Governor's Foreign Language Academies

For three weeks of June and July, Washington and Lee University hosts the French, German, and Spanish full-immersion Virginia Governor's Foreign Language Academies. During this time the students are not permitted to speak English, only their assigned language. They take classes on their language's culture and the different countries that speak the language. When the students are not in class they participate in different activities to further their language development.  These might include sports, theater, dance, yoga, film-making, etc. By the end of the academies, the students attain a very admirable level of proficiency and have made a plethora of friends from across the state of Virginia.
