President John W. Elrod's vision for the Commons was to serve as the "living room" for Washington and Lee University. The Elrod Commons serves as the center of student life and activity. It is the central location for all University constituencies to gather and feel at home.
The Elrod Commons serves as a place to enhance the learning experience of the University, promote social development, and foster collaboration and communication among all. It is home to the following facilities:
- Marketplace Level: The Marketplace, Stackhouse Theater*, WLUR Radio Station
- Colonnade Level: University Store, Atrium, Outing Club Resource Room*, Cultural Resources Room*, Commons Living Room*, Café 77/Emporium
- Second Level: Chavis Board Room* (Commons 206), Student Affairs Staff Offices, Volunteer Resource Room*, Women's Resource Room*, TV Lounge*, Game Room*
- Third Floor: Career Development Center, Meeting Rooms 319* and 320*, Student Organizations Suite, Student Publications Offices, Commons 345* (Meeting Room)
