Welcome to Orientation! August 25, 2023

First-Years (FYs),

Please remember you can view past messages (like move-in details) at the First-Year Correspondence tab on the FYE website. Please share the move-in details with anyone helping you Saturday so everyone understands which roads to take and what to expect.

We will send you an email each day of orientation (other than during Leading Edge) with important information for the next day. Please read the emails carefully and completely and ask your Resident Adviser (RA) for help if anything is unclear.

For Leading Edge check-in at 3pm Saturday afternoon, follow the guidance from your Leading Edge trip leaders.

You can view the Orientation Schedule on the FYE website at https://my.wlu.edu/student-life/first-year-experience/arrivals-and-orientation/orientation-week-schedule. The schedule is a good guide, but some activities organize the class into different groups and you will need additional information from our emails to know where to go.

Your RA will go over several things when you meet with your hall Saturday at 7pm. Every hall has a designated homeroom where your hall will meet unless your RA tells you otherwise.

Everyone should attend the ice cream social on Cannan Green immediately following your hall meeting - a great opportunity to meet new friends.

First-Year Orientation Committee (FYOC) is composed of upper-division students that coordinate several activities during orientation as well as social media communication.

Look for another email from us Saturday afternoon to prepare you for Sunday.

Welcome to Orientation!

Sincerely,

FYE Team - Dean Rodocker, Dean Bryant, Dean Hodge, and Mariel Potter

Reminders:

Please familiarize yourself with the Student Handbook.

If you have received emails from your initial faculty adviser, please respond to them and begin connecting with your resources on campus.

Please remember to read the book The House on Mango Street, which you received this summer. The faculty facilitators are expecting you to bring the book to your discussion September 6.

Just a reminder about the Baldridge Reading and Study Skills Program. If interested, you should register and pay Baldridge directly.
