For Wednesday, September 6 September 5, 2023

FYs,

For the few who may need to switch something about your course schedule, please remember drop/add opens at 9am and there is a Registration Help Desk from 9-11am in Elrod Commons 206. Academic deans and the registrar's office will be available to assist you.

If you are eligible for work study, then you must attend the meeting at 10am in Elrod Commons, Stackhouse Theater to complete paperwork that is required before you begin working and learn how to get paid.

Once in your time at W&L you'll experience Mock Con and the delegate fair from 11am-1pm on Cannan Green is your first opportunity to get involved.

The FY Read Discussion at 1:30pm will be based on the novel The House on Mango Street, which you received this summer. Please bring your book to your discussion. This will be a seminar setting with approximately 10 students in a room with one of the 50 faculty who volunteered to facilitate. Your discussion location and facilitator are indicated in the attached document. You may want to find the room earlier in the day to make sure you know where you are going or at least locate it on the campus map and head there a bit early to make sure you are on time. Immediately following the discussion will be an ice cream social near Huntley Hall (at the end of Stemmons Plaza) where you can experience Sweet Things ice cream, toppings, and continued conversation.

Give yourself at least an hour at the Activities Fair from 5-7pm on Cannan Green checking out the over 100 student organizations and putting your name on the distribution list for anything that might interest you. If you have questions about student activities or student organizations, contact Laura Ulmer. The Religious Life Fair is in front of Elrod Commons at the same time with representatives from dozens of local churches and spiritual organizations. Look for emails from Student Activities, Campus Rec, and Office of Inclusion and Engagement (OIE) for reminders about things like trips to nearby attractions, local concerts, speakers on campus, and other upcoming events.

Honor System Orientation is in University Chapel at 8pm. Check with your RA beforehand if you are not sure where your discussion group is meeting after University Chapel.

Then relax with s'mores around a campfire on Cannan Green from 9-11pm.

Sincerely,

FYE Team - Dean Rodocker, Dean Bryant, Dean Hodge, and Mariel Potter
