Travis Head Reading Room

Travis Head's work is inspired by a diaristic impulse to commemorate experience and examine the function of memory. He lists, inventories, and diagrams everything from the banal to the significant in his meticulous drawings and detailed sketchbooks, which Head considers finished works of art. He speaks of his works as souvenirs and often includes landscape imagery evocative of postcards. Head earned his MA and MFA degrees in painting and drawing from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he was the recipient of a Teaching Fellowship and the Mildred Pelzer Lynch Fellowship. His drawings and artist's books have been exhibited throughout the United States. His collective, The Fylfot Fellows Correspondence Club, has exhibited nationally, as well as in Norway and Qatar. Head is an assistant professor at Virginia Tech's School of Visual Arts in Blacksburg, Virginia.
