Earn Wellness Points for Increasing Your Retirement Contribution

America Saves Week inspired the Live Well W&L team to offer 10 wellness points to employees who increase their retirement contribution by 1% or more between now and February 29th. If you already reach your annual maximum retirement contribution, you are automatically eligible to earn participation credit. If you are eligible for University matching and not currently contributing 5% to your retirement plan, you are throwing away free money. The University matches dollar for dollar every percent you contribute, up to 5%. And that money is yours – even if you leave the University before you retire. To find out how an increase in contributions will affect your take-home pay, contact Kim Austin at x8921. If you are already contributing 5% or more, consider increasing your contribution each year. Remember – the earlier you start, the more time your money has to grow. Additional Info: • The IRS limits the amounts an individual can contribute to his/her retirement account on a tax-deferred basis. Use this chart to determine your maximum: $18,000 if less than 15 years' service and under age 50 $24,000 if less than 15 years' service and age 50 or older • If you've been employed by W&L for over 15 years, the maximum you can contribute is personalized and is based on age, length of service with W&L and past contributions to your retirement plan. You may have already (or will soon) receive an email from Kim Austin or Suzannah Vess letting you know your personalized maximum. • If you'd like to increase your contribution, you can complete and return the Participation Authorization and Salary Reduction Agreement form. New forms replace old so you'll want to indicate something higher than your current contribution on the form. • The TIAA-CREF and Fidelity representatives are available on campus each month to review your asset allocation, contributions and help you determine if you are on track to meet your retirement goal. We advise a meeting with them at least annually. Their visits are announced in the weekly employee e-newsletter, Campus Connection, and their schedule is on our website at http://www.wlu.edu/human-resources/programs-and-events.

Rest…Hydrate…Fuel Healthy Habits Challenge

Everyone knows the importance of sleep, water consumption and breakfast. Most of us would also agree that we feel better after a good night’s sleep, or have more energy after eating a healthy breakfast. But with the day-to-day demands of work and family, it’s easy to shortchange ourselves out of a full night’s sleep, starting off with a healthy breakfast, or drinking enough water. In this 4-week challenge, you'll be asked to examine your current habits during week 1, and then try to improve on them over the following 3 weeks. Challenge Details:                                                The challenge begins Monday, January 4th and ends Saturday, January 30th. You will earn 25 wellness points by recording your sleep, water, and breakfast habits in the challenge's Tracking Log. The Tracking Log can be printed from the wellness website or you can pick one up from Human Resources. To earn credit for completing the challenge, self-attest that you completed all of the requirements before the end of Week 4. To do so, go to the "My Rewards" page and click "Log This" to earn the 25 points for completing the Rest… Hydrate… Fuel Healthy Habits Challenge.

Power of Two Wellness Challenge deadline TODAY

The Power of Two wellness program begins on September 21. You can participate with a partner or on your own. The Power of Two is about making small changes in your daily life that can have meaningful and long-lasting effects on your health. Over the course of 8 weeks, you will be given practical and achievable challenges that will help you improve your diet, lose weight, and become more fit. In this program you will have plenty of support! Many of the activities can be done with a partner so you have a friend or coworker to support, encourage, and motivate you. That's the Power of Two! You can also team up with several people if you want. A buddy is not required, although recommended. If weight loss is not your goal, you can still participate and get credit for the program. Many of the activities, such as evaluating what you eat or getting more exercise, are important for everyone. When it asks you to cut calories from your daily diet, however, you can just focus on eating healthier foods. YOUR goal would be to get healthier calories rather than fewer of them. (We trust you to stay in the spirit of the program and modify your goals accordingly.) All of the materials and information that you will need can be found on the Evolve Wellness Portal at www.bebetterhealth.net, on the My Programs page. Program Details: • The program will begin on September 21 and end on November 14. • Registration deadline is 7pm on September 21. • Earn 25 incentive points upon completion.
