Constitution

General Admission was founded in 1995 as Washington and Lee's first co-ed a cappella group.

General Admission's mission is to provide an audition-based group for singers who wish to participate in a cappella. We strive to give our members a rewarding experience through performing both classic and contemporary popular music. We provide entertainment for the greater W&L and Rockbridge communities at concerts, charity events and more.

Membership:

Members of General Admission are chosen by audition annually and voted upon by the entire group. During the year, additional members may be invited to audition for General Admission at the discretion of the President and Music Director, and their membership will be voted upon by the group.

Attendance:

All attendance is on a per term basis.

An absence is excused by emailing the President at least 30 minutes in advance with a valid excuse. Otherwise, the absence is considered unexcused.

After one unexcused absence, the President will email the member about reasons for missing the rehearsal/audition/performance. After two unexcused absences, the President and Music Director will meet with the member about reasons for missing and plans for the future. After three unexcused absences, a member will be dismissed from General Admission. Dismissed members may re-audition the following year for re-admission.

Two excused absences count as one unexcused absence.

Missing a performance without an excuse garners two unexcused absences and an immediate meeting with the President and Music Director.

If tardiness becomes a recurring problem, the President and Music Director will meet with the member at their discretion.

Music:

Members may email music suggestions to the Music Director at designated times so that he/she can look through them to ensure they are performable by the group and arranged well. The Music Director will then present the remaining songs to the group for final selection by popular vote. The voting process will take place outside of rehearsal time or by email.

Voting decisions require quorum (2/3 + 1), and decisions will be made by popular vote. In case of a tie, the Music Director has the deciding vote.

Officers:

The President is responsible for organizing rehearsals, coordinating performances, and handling other logistical duties. The President for the upcoming school year is elected during the end of Winter Term in April. Any member may run for President, and the position is chosen by blind popular vote.

The Music Director is responsible for running rehearsals, obtaining music arrangements for the group, and helping the group to learn music. The Music Director may appoint another member of the group to help with rehearsals at his/her discretion. The previous Music Director appoints the following Music Director.

The Social Media Chair is responsible for managing General Admission's social media accounts and publicizing performances and other events. The President appoints the Social Media Chair annually.
