Club Soccer

The goal of Club Soccer is to provide a competitive, fun and consistent soccer program for nonvarsity
players. This includes practice(s) every week during each of W&L's three regular
academic semesters, as weather permits, as well as games, both home and away, against the club
soccer programs of other Virginia colleges and universities.

History

Though its origins are unclear, a Club Soccer Team allegedly existed years ago at Washington
and Lee. It became dormant, however, until it was unofficially revitalized in the fall of 2013 by
Stephen Moore, class of 2015. The program slowly began to take shape as an email list of
players formed, practices began, and the team played a handful of games against other club
soccer programs. Co-Presidents Stephen Moore and Patrick Wellborn passed their presidency on
to then Vice-President Chuck Dodge in March, 2015 following the unanimous election of the
team members.

Mission Statement

The goal of Club Soccer is to provide a competitive, fun and consistent soccer program for nonvarsity
players. This includes practice(s) every week during each of W&L's three regular
academic semesters, as weather permits, as well as games, both home and away, against the club
soccer programs of other Virginia colleges and universities.

Requirements for Membership

Club Soccer is inclusive by nature; any Washington and Lee undergraduate student is eligible to
practice and/or play. Players should fill out and submit a "Campus Recreation Informed Consent
Agreement" to the Director of Campus Recreation or the current Club president.

Benefits to the University

Club Soccer offers a competitive soccer platform for those who cannot play varsity or are not
willing to make the deep-seated commitment that is required to play at that level. It furthers the
University as a champion of a complete set of clubs and extracurricular activities and as a
competitive institution, especially given that the vast majority of W&L's academic as well as
geographic peers have a club soccer team to offer their students. Club Soccer also serves as an
admissions incentive; for prospective students who want to play soccer somewhat competitively
in college but not at the varsity level, Club Soccer offers the best solution.

Organization of Leadership

President- The president is the leader of the organization. (S)he is responsible for
communicating with the Athletic Department to set up practices and communicating with other
club soccer teams to schedule games. Until the funding of the organization becomes too
complex, the president also assumes the role of a treasurer in working with the Executive
Committee and the Business Office, and managing the funds of the program.
Vice-President- The vice president is responsible for sending emails to the
members of the organization regarding the practice and game schedule, as well as assisting the
president with certain matters per the president's request. The vice-president assumes the
president's duties when (s)he is unable to perform them.

Elections

Elections take place in the month of February. The Presidential Election only occurs in the event
that the current president relinquishes his position or is a graduating senior in the month when
elections take place. Each member is asked to vote for two people who they believe would best
perform the duties of president. The member who receives the most votes becomes the president
(unless (s)he declines, in which case the member with the next highest number of votes becomes
president). It is the responsibility of the president to select the vice-president, and (s)he must do
so before October 1st of his or her first term in office.
