Benefit to Washington and Lee

The notion of promoting chess fits in well with Washington and Lee's mission as a liberal arts college of promoting general intellectual capability. Furthermore, the Chess Club places special emphasis on charity and scholarship through such events as a charity buy-in tournament and after-school clinics at local schools.
