Free Summer 2015 China Program for College ROTC Students

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) is seeking applications from college ROTC students nationwide for summer 2015 China program.  The program is sponsored by Project Global Officer.  If accepted, full scholarship is guaranteed.

The program dates are June 12-August 16, 2015.  Instead of the traditional grammar and drill teaching and staying in dorms/hotels, the ERAU program uses Chinese language to teach 3 subject matters, as well as providing home stay.  The subject matters are speech, applied cross-culture communication, and introduction to geography.  As a result of the design of the program, one should make great improvement in Chinese language as well as gain subject and cultural knowledge.  Eighty-eight percent (88%) of students in the 2014 program gained in their language proficiency.  Field trips to famous sites are part of the program activities. 

ROTC students who study Chinese language or Chinese Heritage students who know some Chinese are eligible to apply.

  • Use of an Android phone version 4.1 or higher, Windows phone version 8.1 or higher, or an iPhone version 4S or higher

Search Engine Evaluators provide feedback on search engine results by measuring the relevance and usefulness of web pages in correlation to predefined queries, by providing comparative analysis of set of search engine results and various other techniques.

All candidates are required to take and pass a qualification exam before becoming a Search Engine Evaluator.  There are three parts to the exam: a theoretical component and two practical components.  Supplied study materials can be used during the exam.

Description: Part-Time, 4 blocks and 1 after-school lab

The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a part-time Mandarin teacher beginning January 5, 2015.  CSW uses a modular system for its classes.  The job includes teaching the first three modules of Mandarin 1 (75% of the curriculum) as well as one module (the middle 33%) of the Mandarin 4 curriculum.  The teacher would also support students through a Mandarin lab after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:45-4:15 p.m.  We value a candidate's active interest in and sensitivity to issues of diversity and inclusion.  In addition, as a boarding and day school, we seek an individual with a desire to participate in the community beyond the classroom, which includes supporting the residential life of the school.  In addition to these qualifications, our ideal candidate understands the value of collaboration among colleagues and with students in our vibrant, art-infused school.  Moreover, he/she has the skill and experience to teach creative students with a broad range of learning styles and who com from diverse backgrounds.

Specific Responsibilities for a Mandarin Teacher include:

  • 1 block of Mandarin 1 (75 or 90 minute blocks) every day from January 5 through April 30
  • 1 block of Mandarin 4 (75 or 90 minute blocks) every day from March 30 to April 30
  • 2 days a week after-school Mandarin Lab for extra support of students from March 30 to April 30
  • Must be fluent or near-native in standard Mandarin and English

Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.A. in Chinese Language or Teaching Chinese as a second Language
  • M.A. in Chinese Language or Teaching Chinese as a second Language preferred
  • M.A. in related field with experience teaching within specific discipline will be considered
  • Experience teaching Chinese Language at the secondary school level preferred
  • Willingness to be responsive and flexible with pedagogy for our diverse student-learning population
  • Ability to adopt effectivbe technology tools to aid and support student learning
