Parents & Family

Starting college can be an exciting and challenging experience for your child - and you! This is even more true when it comes to career development. You may have questions about how you can help your student along his or her career development journey from day one. We encourage parental support and offer transition tips and conversation starters. If you have any questions relating to our services and how we can help your student, please do not hesitate to contact Career Development at careers@wlu.edu or (540) 458 - 8595.

Ways to Assist

There are a number of ways in which parents can help a student prepare for a future career. Parents can encourage career exploration, the pursuit of internships, and much more.

Conversation Starters

Parents should encourage open communication with students about majors and careers. They should be patient and supportive of a student's choices while raising important questions and issues in conversation.
