Move In!There's nothing like move-in day to bring out the best in a campus. It might have been 7 a.m. but parents and students alike were bounding up the four flights of stairs to Graham-Lees. They might have been dealing with disgruntled drivers but our security guards looked as happy as me on April 1 (the day we mail letters). And even I was feeling the move-in day mood. O-Week Is Over

That's right, folks. Orientation week is no more (at least until next year). Six days of coat-and-tie events at Lee Chapel and various social gatherings have given way to a more relaxed and intellectually demanding regimen of academia. Yesterday was the first day of classes for fall term. But I only have class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so today was my first day of classes. I am taking POL 100 (American National Government), PHIL 180 (The Concept of Honor freshman seminar), SPAN 240 (Intro to Spanish Literature) and MUS 120 (Introduction to Music). And I LOVE my classes thus far. I reserve the right to retract the previous statement around the time of midterms. [More >>]

That is the question that a prestigious series of speakers from around the nation will consider at a conference, Lincoln for the Ages: Lessons for the 21st Century, which will be held at Washington and Lee University on Sept. 25-26 as part of the bicentennial celebration of Lincoln’s birth.

Health Care Expert Shannon Brownlee Presents Johnson Lecture at W&L

Journalist and U.S. health care expert Shannon Brownlee will deliver the opening address of this year's Johnson Lecture Series at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Stackhouse Theater. Brownlee's talk is titled "After Reform: How We Can Transform Medicine, Improve the Nation's Health, and Avoid Going Broke."

NPR’s Alan Cheuse to Speak at W&L

Alan Cheuse, a prolific author best known as the "voice of books" for NPR's All Things Considered, will give a lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m. at Washington and Lee's Northen Auditorium, Leyburn Library.
