• Earle Bates Prize in Environmental Studies Awarded to Bonnie Fay '08 and Katelyn Huffman '08
  The Earle Bates Prize in Environmental Studies is awarded to a graduating environmental studies student in honor of Earle Bates, a strong supporter of the Environmental Studies Program and a role model of environmental citizenship.
• Earth Day 2008
  On April 22, 2008 Washington and Lee celebrated Earth Day along with the Virginia Native Plant Society, the Program in Environmental Studies, the Student Environmental Action League, and the Outing Club, highlighting native plants, the W&L back campus garden and treading lightly on nature.
• The Conference on the Ecological Dimensions of Biofuels
  Held on March 10th, 2008, this conference explored the ecological dimensions of biofuels production and identified management strategies and research opportunities to ensure their sustainability.
• Powershift 2007
  On November 2, 2007, thousands of young adults converged on Washington, D.C. for Power Shift 2007, the first national youth summit to address the climate crisis.

• Prominent Historian to Dissect the Ecology of U.S.-Mexico Trade
  A special lecture series that examines "Nature and Politics in the Americas" will begin Thursday, Feb. 18 at Washington and Lee University and continue through March. The four programs, featuring nationally- and internationally-known guest lecturers, will examine ways in which the physical environment helped shape human history in Latin America, and will discuss the ecology of international trade, conservation and national parks, climate history and environmental justice.
• Fighting Pollution at Hays Creek
  With a modest grant from Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality, Robert Humston, assistant professor of biology at W&L, hopes to enlist the help of Rockbridge County landowners to fight pollution in Hays Creek.
• Beta Beta Beta National Biology Honor Society Started at W&L
  Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta), a national biological honor society for students, particularly undergraduates, and new to Washington and Lee, inducted 36 new members on Nov. 15 at Washington and Lee University.
• Stephanie Hardiman '10 and Abel Delgado '10 Recognized at Celebrating Student Success Reception
  Stephanie Hardiman and Abel Delgado will be recognized at the Celebrating Student Success (CSS) monthly reception on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 2-4 p.m. in the Elrod Commons Living Room.
