Athletics

W&L competes at the NCAA Division III level, where all financial aid is based on family need and academic merit. Most of W&L's 23 teams compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, a 14-team league, with most schools located in Virginia. W&L offers the following varsity sports:

Campus and Location

The University is located in the historic city of Lexington (population 7,000) in the Great Valley of Virginia about three hours southwest of Washington, D.C. W&L’s 35 principal buildings include the picturesque Washington College group forming the Colonnade facing Lee Chapel, where Robert E. Lee is buried. The Colonnade and Lee Chapel are National Historic Landmarks. New or recently renovated buildings include the John W. Elrod University Commons, the journalism department's Reid Hall, the Doremus fitness center and Wilson Hall, the fine arts and music center.

The Honor System at W&L

The Honor System is an integral part of student life and is entirely student-run. The Honor System is based on the fundamental principle of mutual trust among students, faculty and staff that students attending Washington and Lee will not lie, cheat, steal or otherwise act dishonorably.

Libraries

  • Leyburn Library (undergraduate): 956,354 volumes; 10,362 paper, microform and electronic periodical subscriptions; 17,300 video and audio titles; 130,000 sq. ft.
  • Wilbur Hall Law Library: 428,517 volumes, microforms and CD-ROMs.
  • The Science Library provides access to encyclopedias, dictionaries, online sources covering the sciences, indexes and databases, periodical indexes, select online journals and current periodicals.

Student Life
