Physics & Engineering

The department offers a wide variety of courses in physics and engineering, serving students who seek the bachelor of science degree in physics, physics/engineering, and chemistry/engineering, as well as those majoring in other fields.

Students who choose this department for their major come from diverse backgrounds. Twenty-one states and five foreign countries are represented in the classes of 2005-2009. Twenty-five percent are women.

 

Announcements and Events

  • Four-Year Engineering Honor Scholarship
    The Edward R. Mitchell Memorial Honor Scholarship is a full tuition award, renewable for four years of work at W&L. It is typically awarded only every 4 years to a student with an exemplary academic and extracurricular record coupled with an interest in engineering and a demonstrated financial need. To be considered for the award students must fill out and submit the Johnson Scholarship application, along with a complete application for admission to W&L, by December 1, 2009.
  • @AlternateTextDr. Jonathan Erickson Joins Physics and Engineering Department
    In fall 2009 the department will add a new interdisciplinary dimension with the arrival of Dr. Jonathan Erickson. His research will focus on investigating plasticity and information processing in cultured neural networks, and he will work with faculty and students not only in engineering but also in the biology department and the neuroscience program.
